Healing is not something we ask the Universe to send us. The spiritual Universe already is healing — whole, and nowhere absent. What is missing is never the healing substance itself, but only ever the consciousness and capacity that can let it in. This is a particular astrological portal in the Vedic tradition. People have been connecting with Dhanvantari, the divine archetype of healing, since at least 600 to 200 BCE, and this day has long been kept as the night to light lamps at the door against “untimely death.” Take that both ways — literally, as longevity, and as everything else that can die before its time: an opportunity, a relationship, a possibility, a life spent managing a problem rather than living.

How his healing power actually gets into you

The story of Dhanvantari carries real therapeutic power — worked as a facilitated clearing. Its symbols let us bypass the karma and the conscious mind that keep us out of the consciousness of healing, and enter into more of that consciousness directly.

The story is the churning of the ocean of milk. Gods and demons churn it for ages. Treasure after treasure rises, and the last and greatest is Dhanvantari, coming up out of the water with the pot of the nectar of immortality already full in his hand. The nectar was there before the churning began. The churning did not make it — it brought it within reach. And it rises, from below.
