"My Family Won't Let Me Be Happy" — Heal the Inherited Resistance to Happiness and Joy Handed Down Your Family Line
Your ancestors, through their own struggles and traumas, often never felt safe to release into a gentler, easier life — and that bracing against joy passes down the generations, still running in you even when your own life is finally safe. So much of what blocks your happiness is held not in you, but in unresolved ancestral karma — so on the threshold of the ancestral season, we resolve it at its spiritual source.
Part of The Will to Live series — clearing the ancestral blocks to full embodiment, joy, and thriving. (Part 4 of 8.)
Have you noticed that the moment real happiness arrives, something in you pulls back? You finally reach a good place — ease, delight, a season of things going right — and instead of savoring it, you brace and wait for the other shoe to drop. Joy comes, and you can't quite let it in.
For many of us, this resistance isn't just personal. It's inherited. It comes down the family line from ancestors who, through their own struggles and traumas, never felt safe to release into a gentler, easier life. Generations shaped by war, famine, poverty, persecution, and loss learned in their bodies to brace against life itself — that to relax your guard was to be caught off guard, and that ease was a risk they couldn't afford. That bracing — it is not safe to let go into happiness — didn't end with them. It passed down, through the family nervous system and the inheritance of the soul, and it can keep running in you even now, when your own life is finally safe enough for joy.
Let's be clear here: your ancestors aren't sending you bad energy because they hate you or want your life to be bad. They passed on the resistance to joy for the most human of reasons — it was the energy they had to give. Unprocessed pain doesn't stay contained in the one who carries it; it moves, quietly, into those who come after — not a curse, but an inheritance no one chose. And this is the real benefit of doing the work now: it not only helps heal your own life, it helps resolve, for your ancestors, what they could never resolve themselves.
And this is why we work at the ancestral level. In my experience — and that of many others who do this karma clearing work — the unresolved energy behind most of the challenges we face is overwhelmingly ancestral: upwards of ninety to ninety-nine percent of it lives in the lineage, not just the individual. When someone simply can't let themselves be happy, the block is rarely only their own. Reach it at the lineage level, at its true source, and far more can move than working on yourself alone could ever reach.
It can carry a particular ache: a sense that to be happier or freer than those before you is somehow a betrayal — that your loyalty belongs with the family's struggle. And so, without meaning to, we keep ourselves tethered to the suffering our line has always known: sabotaging good things, shrinking our happiness to a safe size. Underneath, the resistance to joy is a resistance to fully living.
This is the heart of the Will to Live work — and this clearing is the fourth in an eight-part series devoted to it: clearing the karmic and ancestral blocks that keep us from being fully alive, fully present, and active in our human lives now. The will to live is not merely the will to survive; it is the will to say a full yes to being alive — to vitality, to thriving, to joy. When joy is blocked, that yes is blocked with it. To clear this resistance is to free the life force to move in you again.
And there is grace in the timing: this Friday brings us to the threshold of the ancestral season, when the family line draws close. As we heal this in ourselves, we heal it for the line — so joy, no longer coded as danger, can flow down the generations in place of struggle.
On the threshold of the ancestral season, we will clear the inherited resistance to joy — the bracing, the survivor's guilt, and the loyalty to struggle handed down your family line — so your own happiness is no longer blocked before it can reach you, and so this weight can resolve for your whole line, ancestors and descendants alike.
What we will clear
The inherited resistance to joy — the bracing the moment happiness arrives
The felt sense that joy is unsafe, frivolous, disloyal, or undeserved
Waiting for the other shoe to drop — never quite letting joy in
Survivor's guilt — that being happier or freer than your ancestors is a betrayal
The inherited loyalty to struggle that tethers you to your line's old level of suffering
Self-sabotage of good things — quietly shrinking your happiness to a safe size
What we will reveal & anchor
Permission and safety to feel joy — without bracing
Your own capacity for happiness, no longer held at arm's length
Joy as your birthright, not a betrayal of those who came before
Freedom from the inherited loyalty to struggle — and a new loyalty to life
Your will to live restored as a full yes — to vitality, thriving, and delight
The family line released from the old coding — and a felt sense of being lighter and more alive
One honest word. This resistance isn't only ancestral, and isn't only spiritual. This clearing reaches its ancestral and spiritual roots — often the largest part, and the hardest to reach any other way. But safety also lives in the body, and a nervous system that learned early to brace may need its own gentler, more conscious tending — practices that rebuild a felt sense of safety, and, for some, a good therapist. The clearing and that embodied work are partners, not rivals: we do the clearing here; where your body is still relearning that it is safe to soften, honor that too.
Working together as a group, on the threshold of the ancestral season, we will clear the inherited resistance to joy at its root — in you, and on behalf of your whole line. What generations could not afford to feel, we make safe to feel again — so your own happiness is no longer blocked before it reaches you, and the full yes to being alive can begin to move more freely through you and down your family line.
